What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR, also referred to as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a cutting-edge form of psychotherapy that can help bring about significant changes by accessing your unconscious belief system. EMDR utilizes bi-lateral stimulation of the two hemispheres of your brain while you are focusing on a particular memory or trigger. During this time, everything that was stored in your brain at the time of that memory or trigger will be reprocessed. This can include images, emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations that your body felt or experienced. Once this has been reprocessed, most people experience a desensitization of the negative feelings brought about by the thought of the memory or trigger and can replace any dysfunctional beliefs with a positive self-belief. By replacing the negative thoughts with positive ones, your unconscious mind will then associate the positive beliefs when thinking about similar situations they find themselves in in the present. This often creates a ripple effect within the unconscious mind to other negative self-beliefs and experiences and thereby creating an even more profound effect.
